Niners Defense Meets Rookie-Heavy Dolphins in Classic Pace Mismatch

The 49ers are 13.5-point home favorites for good reason after throttling their Week 1 opponent to a mere seven points, and now they get a Dolphins offense that sputtered to just 13 points and a pathetic 74 rushing yards in their opener. San Francisco also enjoys the rest advantage—nine days between games versus Miami's seven—which matters when you're planning to impose your will physically.

Here's the setup: Kyle Shanahan's crew rushed for 174 yards last week and will look to do the same against a Miami front that got pushed around. Once the Niners build a lead, they'll milk clock like a dairy farm, keeping Miami's offense on the sideline. Speaking of that offense, the Dolphins are trotting out a rookie-heavy receiving corps—Chris Bell, Kevin Coleman Jr., and Caleb Douglas among the projected starters—against a defense that just made an NFL offense look JV. That's a recipe for three-and-outs and punts.

DarkHorse likes the under 45.0 here, and it's hard to argue. San Francisco controls tempo, Miami lacks firepower, and this has all the makings of a low-possession slugfest where the 49ers impose their will and the scoreboard stays sleepy. Fade the fireworks.
