The Cardinals just walked into Chavez Ravine and gut-punched the Dodgers 8-6 last night, and suddenly this September series has some serious juice. St. Louis came to play, hanging eight runs on LA's pitching staff and proving they're not here for a late-season vacation. The Dodgers, meanwhile, are licking their wounds after watching their home field advantage mean absolutely nothing in the opener.

September baseball hits different, and the Cardinals clearly got that memo. Their bats came alive at the perfect time, stringing together quality at-bats and capitalizing when it mattered. The Dodgers' pitching couldn't find the strike zone when they needed it most, and that's a recipe for disaster against a team playing with house money this late in the year.

Now LA faces a must-win situation to avoid the series loss. The question is whether their lineup can respond with the kind of urgency you'd expect from a contender, or if the Cardinals' momentum carries over for another night. St. Louis has the confidence, the hot bats, and nothing to lose. The Dodgers have the talent and the desperation.

This one's going to be a dogfight. Expect LA to come out swinging, but don't be shocked if the Cardinals prove last night wasn't a fluke.
