The Diamondbacks did just enough to escape with a 6-5 win over the Athletics at Chase Field, cashing DarkHorse's -134 ticket in the process—though it wasn't exactly the comfortable cruise we envisioned. Arizona's supposed pitching advantage materialized on paper, but this one came down to the wire in a way that had backers sweating until the final out.

The D-backs built their cushion early and held on for dear life as Oakland—yes, that same dreadful 3-12-in-their-last-15 Oakland squad—mounted a late rally that fell just short. Jack Perkins and his 6.87 ERA gave Arizona plenty to work with, as expected, but the bullpen had to slam the door in the ninth to preserve the one-run edge. Kohl Drake wasn't dominant, but he didn't need to be; he simply outpitched his counterpart enough to let the offense do the rest.

The Athletics showed some fight despite their brutal road form, making this closer than the pitching matchup suggested it should be. Still, a win's a win, and DarkHorse nailed the side. The systemic advantages held up when it mattered most, even if the margin made it interesting. Arizona moves on; Oakland's misery tour continues.
