Pirates Snatch One in Milwaukee, DarkHorse Eats Crow on Brewers ML

The Pirates walked into Milwaukee and swiped a 4-3 victory, leaving DarkHorse's Brewers ML pick (-138) face-down in the dirt. So much for bullpen depth being the deciding factor.

We leaned on Milwaukee's elite staff numbers and figured Brandon Sproat's 5.05 ERA would crack under pressure at home. Instead, it was Bubba Chandler who kept Pittsburgh in striking distance despite his own pedestrian 4.56 mark, and the Bucs' bats—those same sub-.500 OPS guys we dismissed—found just enough juice to scratch across four runs. Meanwhile, Milwaukee's vaunted 3.48 ERA staff couldn't hold a lead or manufacture the offense we expected from Bauers, Turang, and Chourio.

The final score was tight, exactly the kind of game where bullpen depth should matter. Except it didn't. Pittsburgh's cold streak (1-4 in their last five) apparently thawed at the perfect moment, and the Brewers' home-field advantage evaporated into the Wisconsin night.
