The Tigers rolled into Guaranteed Rate Field yesterday and hung 11 runs on a White Sox pitching staff that's basically throwing batting practice at this point. Detroit's offense is clicking at the right time, and they get another crack at Chicago's beleaguered arms in what should be a favorable spot to keep the momentum rolling.
Chicago's season has been a tire fire, and their bullpen continues to leak oil in September. When you're surrendering 11 runs at home to a Tigers squad that's been streaky all year, you've got problems top to bottom. Detroit capitalized on every mistake, and there's no reason to think the White Sox suddenly figured things out overnight.
The Tigers need wins down the stretch if they want to stay in the wild card conversation, and this Chicago series is about as close to a gift as you'll find in the American League. Their lineup showed yesterday they can exploit weak pitching, and the White Sox are serving it up on a platter.
Expect Detroit to stay aggressive early and often. Chicago's going to need a miracle turnaround from their staff to keep this competitive. Based on what we saw Thursday night, that miracle isn't walking through that door. Tigers should be live again.
