The Giants' recent offensive woes—2.67 runs per game over their last 15—continued in spectacular fashion, but seven runs should've been enough if Tidwell had delivered even a mediocre start. He didn't. The Rockies rode their three-game win streak into San Francisco and extended it to four, punishing every mistake and then some. Oracle Park's pitcher-friendly reputation meant nothing when Colorado was teeing off.

Bottom line: we got the pitching matchup catastrophically wrong. Tidwell's numbers said elite; his performance said Triple-A. The Rockies' road offense woke up at the perfect time, and we're left holding the bag. Tough miss, but that's baseball—sometimes the "sure thing" gets shelled.
