The Cardinals limp into Citizens Bank Park on Saturday still licking their wounds from Friday's 7-6 heartbreaker, where the Phillies walked it off in dramatic fashion. St. Louis had chances but couldn't close, a theme that's plagued them all season when facing competent National League competition on the road.

Philadelphia's lineup is humming right now, and playing at home in August means the ball carries like it's shot out of a cannon. The Cardinals' pitching staff got tagged for seven runs yesterday and will need to find answers quickly against a Phillies offense that smells blood when they've got momentum. St. Louis counters with... well, we'll see what they counter with, but recent form suggests it won't be pretty.

The Cardinals have shown flashes of competence this year, but consistency remains their Achilles' heel. Meanwhile, the Phillies are feeding off their home crowd and riding the high of last night's comeback. Expect Philadelphia to keep their foot on the gas here. They've got the better bullpen depth, the hotter bats, and home-field advantage working in their favor.

St. Louis needs a statement win to avoid getting buried in this series. Based on what we saw Friday, that statement might have to wait another day. The Phillies look poised to take command.
