Guardians Fade in Chicago as White Sox Cash 6-3 Victory

The Paddock took it on the chin at Guaranteed Rate Field, where our Guardians ML (-134) pick got torched in a 6-3 loss to the White Sox. So much for Gavin Williams' supposed pitching edge and Cleveland's vaunted road run prevention—Chicago's bats had other ideas.

Williams entered with sparkling peripherals (3.56 ERA, 11.53 K/9), but the White Sox lineup didn't read the scouting report. Chicago jumped early and often, building cushion against a Guardians offense that couldn't capitalize when it mattered. Meanwhile, Anthony Kay—the pitcher we faded hard with his 4.01 ERA and pedestrian strikeout rate—did just enough to keep Cleveland at arm's length. The White Sox bullpen locked it down from there, turning our 60% win probability projection into wishful thinking.

Cleveland's road splits (3.29 runs against) looked elite on paper, but baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheet when the other team is actually hitting. The Guardians managed three runs, nowhere near enough against a White Sox squad that pushed across six and controlled the game's tempo. Our reasoning wasn't flawed—Williams genuinely owns better stuff—but execution matters more than projections, and Chicago executed when Cleveland didn't.
