Athletics Look Live Getting Nearly Two Runs in Arlington Despite deGrom

The Rangers trot out Jacob deGrom on Monday night, and yet we're getting Oakland at +1.5 with a moderate confidence tag. That should tell you something about where Texas stands right now. Yes, deGrom's name still carries weight, but his 4.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP aren't exactly Cy Young credentials—and the gap between him and Oakland's Gage Jump (4.69 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) is only half a run. That's not enough separation to justify laying lumber on a Rangers squad that's been wildly inconsistent, averaging 4.2 runs over their last ten and playing back-to-back days.

Oakland already took two of three in the season series, including a 5-2 beatdown in mid-August when we foolishly backed Texas. The A's have shown they can hang with this Rangers lineup, and the run-line math backs it up—underdogs at +190 on the moneyline historically cover the 1.5 about 60% of the time. The market's already pricing in deGrom's edge at 51.7% implied probability for Oakland to cover. We're not chasing miracles here, just exploiting a number that gives us breathing room against a Rangers team that hasn't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard. Ride the A's and the cushion.
