The Royals turned Kauffman Stadium into their own personal batting cage Tuesday night, outlasting the Athletics 9-7 in a game that had all the defensive discipline of a beer league softball tournament. Kansas City's bats woke up just in time to erase an early Oakland lead, proving once again that pitching is optional when your lineup decides to show up.

The Athletics jumped ahead early, building what looked like a comfortable cushion before the Royals' offense remembered they were playing at home. Kansas City chipped away methodically, then opened the floodgates in the middle innings to flip the script entirely. Oakland's bullpen, about as reliable as a paper umbrella in a thunderstorm, couldn't hold the lead when it mattered most.

Seven runs should win you plenty of baseball games, but not when you're handing out free passes and serving up meatballs like it's Thanksgiving dinner. The A's pitching staff gave Kansas City every opportunity to steal this one, and the Royals gladly obliged.

DarkHorse stayed quiet on this matchup—probably the smart play given how unpredictable both lineups have been lately. Sometimes the best bet is no bet at all, especially when two inconsistent clubs decide to play home run derby instead of actual baseball.
