Pirates Bounce Back at Home After Stumbling Against Leahy's Cardinals

Twenty-four hours ago, Pittsburgh got blanked by the same Cardinals lineup we're fading today, so let's address the elephant in the room: yes, we're running it back with the Pirates at -160, and yes, yesterday stung. But this is a different arm on the bump, and context matters when you're separating signal from noise in late September.

Paul Skenes takes the ball for Pittsburgh with a 10.29 K/9 that dwarfs Matthew Leahy's 8.41, and while Leahy's 3.65 ERA looks tidy, his 1.34 WHIP screams regression waiting to happen. St. Louis has been the inferior club over their last ten (4-6, bleeding 4.7 runs per game) with a lineup littered with sub-.600 OPS bats—Gorman, Saggese, and Scott are all flirting with automatic-out territory. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's offense features legitimate thunder in Cruz (.850 OPS), Lowe (.820), and Gonzales (.750), and they've taken the season series 5-3 while posting a solid 6-3 mark at home.

The market has this priced near fair value at 59 percent implied, so we're not pounding the table—it's a confidence 2-out-of-5 lean, small stakes only. But Skenes is the best pitcher in this game, and the Pirates have the better roster when both teams show up. Fade yesterday's result and trust the process.
