The Mets took care of business against Miami 4-2 at home, though "took care of business" might be generous for what amounted to a Tuesday night slog nobody will remember by Thursday. New York did just enough to avoid embarrassment against a Marlins squad that's been playing out the string since Memorial Day.

Credit where it's due: the Mets' pitching staff kept Miami's anemic offense in check, holding them to two runs while the home nine manufactured just enough offense to avoid extra innings. Four runs won't win you many October games, but against this Marlins lineup it might as well have been a touchdown.

Miami showed the fight of a team already planning their November tee times, managing only two runs and never seriously threatening late. The Marlins have become professional at losing close games, and this was another masterclass in finding creative ways to not score with runners on base.

DarkHorse stayed off this one entirely, and honestly? Smart money. Backing either of these teams in a divisional matchup this late in the season is asking for heartburn. The Mets got the W, the Marlins got another L to add to the pile, and everyone goes home wishing they'd watched literally anything else.
