D.C. United Scrapes Past Toronto 2-1, Over Cashes Against the Grain

D.C. United clawed out a 2-1 home win over Toronto FC, and our under 2.5 bet ate turf in the process. We leaned on both clubs' recent offensive futility—Toronto averaging half a goal per road game, D.C. limping through a winless five-match stretch—and projected a cagey, low-event slog. Instead, we got three goals and a miss.

The underlying numbers weren't lying: both teams are mediocre going forward and leaky at the back. But on Saturday, D.C. found enough quality in transition to punish Toronto's porous away defense, which has been hemorrhaging chances all season. Toronto managed a consolation goal—probably their best offensive sequence in weeks—but it wasn't nearly enough to salvage a result or our ticket.

Credit where it's due: D.C. needed the three points desperately, sitting near the basement, and they executed when it mattered. Toronto's road woes continue, now winless in their last six away from home. The match stayed tight, but three goals is three goals, and the over hit comfortably.

We backed the trends and the data. Sometimes variance bites. D.C. moves on with a rare smile; we move on hunting better spots. That's the game.
