Rapids Stifle Woeful SKC, But the Goals Never Came

Colorado walked away with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, but the scoreline tells only half the story for those who backed the over 3.0. The Rapids controlled proceedings from the opening whistle, capitalizing on SKC's defensive chaos to build a two-goal cushion, yet neither side could find the net again in what became a frustratingly conservative affair down the stretch.

The pre-match logic was sound: Sporting Kansas City arrived hemorrhaging 2.56 goals per game overall and a ghastly 3.25 on the road, while Colorado had been finishing clinical above expected goals. The March meeting between these sides produced five goals, and everything pointed toward another shootout. Instead, we got two Rapids strikes and then a whole lot of nothing. Whether Colorado sat back to protect the lead or SKC's toothless attack simply couldn't muster a response, the final whistle blew with just two tallies on the board.

DarkHorse's over 3.0 call missed, and it stings because the underlying thesis wasn't wrong—SKC's defense remains a sieve. They just forgot to show up offensively, managing zero goals against a Rapids side that should've been there for the taking. Sometimes the math checks out and the execution doesn't. That's soccer.
