Houston's Stingy Defense Meets Vancouver's Fortress in Low-Scoring Affair

Wednesday night at BC Place brings together two sides suddenly allergic to conceding goals, and that's bad news for anyone hoping for fireworks. Vancouver's home fortress has been borderline impenetrable this season, surrendering just 0.71 goals per game on their own turf. Meanwhile, Houston rolls in having allowed a microscopic 0.2 goals across their last five matches. When the best defense meets another elite defense, you get exactly what you'd expect: a snoozefest for the neutrals, a goldmine for the under bettors.

The Dynamo took the first meeting back in May with a 1-0 result, and this one has all the hallmarks of another cagey, tight affair. Here's the kicker: Houston's been punching well above their weight in front of goal, outscoring their expected goals by nearly eight this season. That kind of overperformance doesn't last forever, and their underlying numbers (1.17 xG per game) suggest the well is running dry. Add in significant injury absences on both sides limiting attacking options, and you've got a recipe for a defensive chess match.

DarkHorse is backing the under 3.0 goals here, and it's hard to argue. These teams know each other, neither can score freely, and both are built to frustrate. Bring a pillow.
