The push is in, folks, and sometimes that's exactly what you're hoping for when the road gets bumpy. Charlotte FC fell 2-1 at Soldier Field, but our +1.0 cushion kept us whole on a night where the Fire finally remembered how to finish their chances.

Chicago's underlying numbers suggested they were due for a breakout, and they delivered when it mattered most. The Fire converted their quality looks into actual goals for once, shaking off that ugly -1.86 goals underperformance we flagged. Charlotte's recent defensive stinginess—just 0.8 goals against per game over their last five—got tested and cracked, though they managed to find the net themselves to keep it respectable.

This is precisely why you play the number, not the result. We banked on Charlotte's form holding them within striking distance, and that whole-integer +1.0 line gave us push protection on a one-goal defeat. The Fire were always capable of winning at home given their xG profile; we just needed Charlotte not to get blown out. Mission accomplished.

Not a win, but not a loss either. We'll take the push and move on to the next card. Chicago finally showed up, but we walked away unscathed.
