San Diego FC hosts a Colorado Rapids side that's hit cruise control at exactly the right time. Three straight wins, a stifling defense that's conceded just one goal in five matches, and underlying numbers that scream "we're better than our record suggests." The Rapids blanked San Diego 1-0 in July and look primed to do it again.

Here's the thing: San Diego's been living on borrowed time. They're overperforming their expected goals by nearly six goals — the kind of unsustainable hot streak that eventually meets reality with a sledgehammer. Meanwhile, Colorado has been the opposite, creating quality chances and getting unlucky finishing. Regression favors the visitors in a big way.

The defensive gap is glaring. Colorado allows 1.32 xGA per game; San Diego bleeds 1.82. When you're giving up that many quality looks at home, you'd better hope your goalie stays superhuman. Spoiler: he won't.

DarkHorse is riding Colorado +0.5 at moderate confidence, and it's hard to argue. The Rapids don't need to win outright — though they might — they just need to avoid a loss against a side that's due for a reality check. San Diego's home crowd won't bail them out when the metrics finally catch up. Take the road dog with the hot hand and the better process.
