New York City FC walked into Lower.com Field and snatched three points with a 2-1 victory, leaving Columbus licking its wounds and DarkHorse's under 2.5 pick in the dustbin. So much for roster depletion killing offense.

The math was sound heading in—combined xG hovering near 2.76, NYCFC averaging under a goal per road game, Columbus finishing below expected all season. What we got instead was three goals by the 70th minute and a total that sailed over 2.5 before most fans finished their second beer. NYCFC's depleted squad clearly didn't get the memo about offensive suppression, finding the net twice despite missing nine regulars. Columbus managed just one response at home, which is its own indictment given the Crew's recent form.

The under looked pristine on paper—sharp money moved the line down from 2.75, both clubs nursing injury lists longer than a CVS receipt, and recent trends screaming defensive slog. Instead, we got enough goals to torch that ticket and remind everyone that MLS gonna MLS. Credit to New York for capitalizing on the road, but this one stings for anyone who trusted the underlying numbers. Sometimes the chaos wins, and tonight it cashed the over bettors' slips while leaving the rest of us wondering what happened to all that "scoring suppression."
