Nashville's Elite Defense Cracks in D.C. Stalemate, ML Pick Fizzles

So much for that 0.71 goals-against fortress. Nashville SC, the league's defensive juggernaut and table-toppers, limped out of Audi Field with a 2-2 draw after D.C. United—yes, that D.C. United—found the back of the net twice against a backline that had been borderline impenetrable on the road. The Stable's Nashville ML pick? Dead on arrival.

We leaned hard on Nashville's elite defensive metrics and road stinginess (0.43 goals-against away from home), banking on them suffocating a D.C. side that can't finish and sits ninth for a reason. Instead, Nashville's defense had an off night, and D.C.'s attack—underperforming their xG all season—suddenly remembered how to score. Whether it was lapses in concentration or D.C. finally catching a break, the result is the same: two points dropped and a losing ticket for us.

Nashville's +18 goals-versus-xG overperformance was always a red flag for regression, and maybe this was the night it arrived. Credit to D.C. for capitalizing, but this draw stings. A top-of-table side with Nashville's profile should be closing out road games against mid-table opposition. They didn't. We missed. On to the next.
