Well, that was underwhelming. St. Louis CITY SC limped to a 1-1 draw at Children's Mercy Park, squandering what should've been a statement road win against MLS's defensive disaster class. We backed the visitors at -104, banking on their superior xG profile and red-hot form to overwhelm a Sporting KC side hemorrhaging 2.53 goals per game. Instead, CITY managed just one goal against the league's worst backline—a criminal underperformance that cost us the W.

The underlying numbers weren't lying: St. Louis does generate quality chances (1.723 xGF/game) and SKC genuinely can't defend (2.189 xGA/game). But soccer's a cruel mistress, and finishing matters. CITY's recent 4-0-1 surge suggested they'd found their killer instinct, yet they couldn't capitalize when it mattered most. Sporting KC, for all their defensive frailties, managed to nick a goal and hold firm enough to steal a point.

The draw feels like two points dropped for St. Louis rather than one gained. When you're the superior side facing the league's leakiest defense, you simply have to win. Our pick missed because CITY couldn't convert dominance into goals—a frustrating reminder that xG projections mean nothing if you can't finish your dinner. Onto the next one.
