Lakers-Kings Preseason Opener: All the Glamour, Half the Execution

The Lakers roll into Sacramento for the first preseason tilt of 2026, and if you're expecting playoff intensity, adjust your expectations accordingly. This is glorified practice with scoreboards—rotation experiments, camp invitees getting their auditions, and LeBron (if he even suits up) logging about as many minutes as your lunch break.

Sacramento will trot out their revamped roster for limited stretches while coaches tinker with lineups that won't survive November. The 230.5 total assumes these teams will look anything like their regular-season selves. They won't. Last year's Lakers posted 116.6 offensive efficiency with a coherent rotation; tonight they'll feature third-stringers jacking contested threes while veterans watch from plush chairs. The Kings' 109.6 efficiency gets even uglier when you're running five-man units that have never practiced together.

Preseason starters typically see 18-25 minutes max, which means 20-plus minutes of guys fighting for roster spots—not exactly offensive poetry. Pace will be methodical, execution sloppy, and defensive intensity somewhere between "exists" and "barely."

DarkHorse likes the under 230.5 here, and it's hard to argue. October basketball is about evaluation, not entertainment. Bet accordingly.
