Nets-Hornets Preseason Opener: Why the Under Makes Sense at 212.5

Charlotte hosts Brooklyn to kick off the 2026 preseason slate, and this 212.5 total feels like a trap for Over bettors who haven't done their homework. Sure, that number screams regular-season action, but exhibition basketball is a different animal entirely—especially when both rosters are dealing with Day-To-Day designations that'll shorten rotations and kill any semblance of offensive rhythm.

The Hornets are particularly hamstrung. Coby White and Kon Knueppel, their primary ball-handlers, are both listed Day-To-Day with injuries that will either sideline them or severely limit their run. Good luck generating pace and clean looks when your playmaking is compromised from tip-off. Brooklyn's got its own question mark in Mikel Brown Jr., also Day-To-Day, which only adds to the choppy, disjointed vibe we're likely to see.

Preseason means deep rotations—15 to 20 bodies cycling through—with starters capped around 18-25 minutes. That's a recipe for cold shooting, defensive lapses that don't get punished by elite scorers, and plenty of garbage possessions down the stretch. The book set this total like it's December, but it's early October and nobody's in midseason form.

DarkHorse likes the Under 212.5 at moderate confidence. Expect rust, expect rotation chaos, and expect the scoreboard to stay quiet.
