Thunder's Entire Rotation Day-to-Day as Pacers Catch 9.5 in OKC Preseason Opener

The Thunder open their preseason slate Tuesday night as massive favorites over Indiana, but the availability report reads like a hospital ward census. Gilgeous-Alexander, both Williams brothers, Holmgren, Hartenstein, Caruso, Wallace, Mitchell, McCain, Topic, and Sorber — essentially Oklahoma City's entire rotation — are all listed day-to-day with rest or injury tags. If this is load management theater in early October, bettors laying 9.5 are paying for star power that might log 12 minutes before hitting the showers.

Indiana's injury ledger is mercifully short: Johnny Furphy is done for the year with a torn ACL, and T.J. McConnell is day-to-day. That's it. If the Pacers trot out anything resembling their regular rotation against OKC's camp bodies and two-way fliers, this number deflates in a hurry. Yes, last season's Thunder averaged 119 points per game with a 117.0 offensive rating compared to Indiana's 112.4 and 109.2, but those metrics describe rosters that have turned over and mean virtually nothing when half the relevant names aren't even guaranteed to suit up.

DarkHorse likes Pacers +9.5 at low confidence — because in exhibition basketball, the team that actually shows up tends to cover. Don't overthink it.
