Three days after dropping a 4-2 decision at Honda Center, Calgary trudges back to Anaheim still searching for win number one. The Flames are 0-5, Devin Cooley's posted a ghastly .818 save percentage, and the vibes are absolutely rancid. So naturally, we're backing them at +170.

Here's the thing: this line reeks of recency bias. Yes, Calgary can't buy a win, but they're outshooting opponents 28.0 to 23.2 per game and generating legitimate chances. The puck just isn't going in. Meanwhile, Anaheim's banged up—Troy Terry's on IR, Cutter Gauthier and Ryan Poehling are day-to-day—and Lukas Dostal has been leaky himself at .884 through four starts. The Ducks aren't exactly world-beaters here.

The market's pricing Calgary like they're a 35% proposition based on five games of bad bounces. That's lazy. At nearly 3-to-1, we're getting compensated to fade the panic and bet on some statistical mean reversion. The Flames aren't this bad, and Anaheim's depth chart looks like a MASH unit.

DarkHorse likes Calgary at +170 with modest confidence—this isn't a mortgage play, but it's value against an injury-riddled opponent and a number inflated by small-sample hysteria. Sometimes the best bets are the ugliest dogs.
