The Avalanche head back to Mammoth territory six days after handing them a decisive 4-1 beatdown, and there's little reason to think the script changes much this time around. Colorado looked every bit the superior squad in that first meeting, controlling pace and finishing with authority while Mammoth managed just a single consolation marker.
What's working for the Avs? Everything that matters. Their transition game carved up Mammoth's defensive structure last Saturday, and goaltending was rock-solid when tested. Meanwhile, Mammoth's offense looked completely stifled—one goal against a confident Colorado backend doesn't inspire much confidence heading into the rematch.
The short turnaround cuts both ways, but advantage goes to the team that just proved it owns this matchup. Mammoth needs answers they didn't have a week ago, and finding them in less than a week against the same personnel is a tall order. Home ice might tighten things up slightly, but we're talking about a team that got thoroughly outclassed on neutral ice.
DarkHorse hasn't weighed in yet, but the tape doesn't lie. Colorado's got Mammoth's number, and until we see evidence otherwise, this looks like another comfortable night for the visitors. Mammoth better find some offensive creativity fast, or this becomes a statement series for the Avalanche.
