The NHL calendar flips Friday night in Vegas, and the Golden Knights welcome a banged-up Anaheim squad that looks overmatched before puck drop. Last season's head-to-head tells you everything: Vegas went 4-2 against the Ducks while averaging 3.5 goals per game and surrendering just 2.17. That's dominance, not luck.
Now strip Troy Terry from Anaheim's lineup—he's on IR—and suddenly a thin forward group looks skeletal. A.J. Greer's day-to-day status doesn't help matters. The Ducks need offense from somewhere, and good luck finding it against Carter Hart, who projects at a robust .923 save percentage. On the other end, Lukas Dostal posted an .888 mark last year, a gap so wide you could drive a Zamboni through it.
Yes, the -200 moneyline is expensive. Yes, season openers are notoriously sloppy. But this isn't a coin flip. The Golden Knights have the goaltending edge, the home crowd, and a roster built to punish weaker opponents. Anaheim's best hope is that Vegas comes out rusty and Dostal channels his inner Hasek. Don't count on it.
The play: Golden Knights ML at -200. Chalk exists for a reason, and tonight that reason is wearing a VGK sweater.
