Panthers limp into Buffalo but goaltending gap too wide to ignore

The Panthers roll into KeyBank Arena on Monday night looking every bit like a team held together by duct tape and Jacob Markstrom's glove hand. Losing Aleksander Barkov would cripple most clubs. Losing Brad Marchand on top of that? That's a death sentence for offensive creativity. Yet here we are, Florida sitting at a respectable defensive posture because Markstrom has been an absolute brick wall through three starts—.916 save percentage, 1.71 GAA, the kind of numbers that win games you have no business winning.

Buffalo, meanwhile, is leaking oil at 3.8 goals against per game, and Colten Ellis has been about as reliable as a screen door on a submarine (.880 SV%, 2.91 GAA). The Sabres have firepower up front, sure, but when your netminder is giving up beach balls and your team defense looks like a beer league squad, you're in trouble against even a depleted Panthers roster that knows how to lock things down structurally.

At pick'em odds, this is a no-brainer. Florida's goaltending edge is Grand Canyon-sized, and their defensive discipline (2.4 GA/game) should frustrate a Sabres attack that hasn't figured out how to finish. Take the Panthers ML and trust Markstrom to steal another one.
