Leafs Should Feast on Buffalo's Road Woes and Shaky Goaltending

The Sabres roll into Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night, and if their early-season road form holds, this could get ugly fast. Buffalo's been hemorrhaging goals away from home—0-2 with a ghastly 5.0 goals allowed per game—while Toronto's been relatively stingy at home, surrendering just 2.75 per contest. That's a recipe for pain when you're already trotting out Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who's posted a brutal .850 save percentage and 3.46 GAA through the early going.

On the other side, Sergei Bobrovsky gives the Leafs a clear edge between the pipes with a .907 save percentage and 2.97 GAA—not Vezina numbers, but lightyears better than what Buffalo's working with. When you're facing a team that can't stop pucks on the road and can't get quality goaltending, the math gets pretty simple.

DarkHorse has Toronto at -120 with moderate confidence (3/5), and frankly, that feels about right. The market's giving the Leafs a 52.2% implied probability, but the goaltending and situational splits suggest they should be closer to 60%. Buffalo might have some offensive firepower, but you can't win in this league when your netminder's leaking goals like a sieve. Lay the short price and ride the home side.
