Stars Get the Cushion in Buffalo Despite Road Tag

Dallas rolls into KeyBank Arena on Thursday night as a live dog, and frankly, that's where the value sits. Sure, Buffalo's home and the market thinks they're a goal-and-a-half better, but three games into the season, nobody's proven much of anything. The Stars counter with Casey DeSmith, who's been lights-out early (.923 save percentage, 2.06 goals against), while the Sabres trot out Colten Ellis and his .900 mark—a gap you can drive a Zamboni through. More telling: Dallas is surrendering two goals a night; Buffalo's bleeding 3.67. That's not a typo.

Both clubs are rested coming off two days between games, so no schedule angle to exploit. This comes down to goaltending and defensive structure, and the Stars own both edges. Puck-line favorites historically cover south of 47 percent, and asking Buffalo to win by two against a team that doesn't give up much feels like a market overreaction to home ice. The Sabres haven't shown the shutdown chops or netminding consistency to justify laying the big number.

DarkHorse likes Stars +1.5 here—confidence is modest (2/5) given the small sample theater, but the logic is sound. You're not asking Dallas to win outright, just to keep it within a goal. Against this Sabres defense and that goalie matchup, that's a reasonable ask.
