The Tigers bring their road show to Oracle Park on Friday night, and if you've been paying attention, you know Detroit's been one of the league's surprise stories this summer. Meanwhile, the Giants are stumbling through August like they forgot how to play small ball in their own pitcher-friendly yard.

Detroit's offense has found another gear lately, manufacturing runs in all the ways that torture opposing pitchers—timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and just enough power to keep defenses honest. They've won seven of their last ten and look nothing like the team that was supposed to rebuild for another year. The Tigers' bullpen has been lockdown in late innings, which matters when you're grinding out tight games on the road.

San Francisco, on the other hand, can't buy a clutch hit right now. They're batting under .220 with runners in scoring position over their last dozen games, and Oracle Park's expansive outfield turns doubles into long outs when you're already struggling to score. The Giants' rotation has been serviceable, but serviceable doesn't win games when your lineup goes comatose for stretches.

Detroit's got the momentum, the better form, and the hungrier clubhouse. Lay the reasonable number on the visitors and don't overthink it.
