Twins Look to Exploit Royals' Injury Woes and Cold Streak

The Twins roll into Kansas City catching the Royals at the absolute worst time. Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino are both on the IL, gutting a lineup that's already sputtering through a four-game skid and averaging a pathetic 3.0 runs per game over their last five. Meanwhile, KC's been hemorrhaging 5.4 runs per contest in that same stretch. Not exactly the recipe for a bounce-back spot.

Minnesota counters with Joe Ryan, who's been legitimately sharp this year—3.52 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a strikeout rate over 10 per nine that shows he's missing bats when it matters. The Royals trot out Randy Dobnak, whose 1.04 ERA looks shiny until you peek under the hood: a ghastly 4.85 K/9 suggests he's living on borrowed time and lucky batted-ball outcomes. Regression is coming, probably soon.

DarkHorse likes the Twins at -148, and it's hard to argue. Minnesota just took the last meeting 4-3 five days ago, and nothing's improved for Kansas City since. The market's giving you a starting pitching mismatch—Ryan's strikeout upside versus Dobnak's smoke-and-mirrors act—plus a depleted, ice-cold Royals offense. Lay the short price and ride the better team in the better spot.
