Rockies-Snakes Round Two: Chase Field Shootout Incoming After Yesterday's Dud

So yesterday's pitchers' duel caught everyone off guard—a 3-2 snoozer that left over bettors licking their wounds. Forget it. Wednesday night in Phoenix should play out exactly how the numbers suggest it should.

We're staring down a combined starter ERA north of 5.30 between Merrill Kelly (4.88) and Ryan Feltner (5.71), and that's before we get to the bullpens. Both relief corps are running on fumes after back-to-back games, which means we'll see plenty of middle relievers trying to navigate Chase Field's unforgiving dimensions. Colorado's pitching staff has been a tire fire on the road all season, surrendering 6.33 runs per game away from Coors. The Diamondbacks aren't exactly lockdown themselves with a 4.10 team ERA, but they won't need to be—Feltner's been batting practice most nights.

The pick is OVER 9.5, and it's backed by everything except last night's fluke. When two staffs this compromised meet in a hitter-friendly environment with depleted bullpens, the scoreboard operators earn their pay. Yesterday was the exception. Tonight should be the rule: runs early, runs often, and a cash ticket before the ninth inning stretch.
