Islanders +1.5: Devils Can't Justify Road Chalk With Sorokin Standing Tall

New Jersey rolled into UBS Arena a week ago and boat-raced the Islanders 4-1, but that result doesn't tell you much when both clubs have played exactly one game since. The Devils put up three goals in their opener; the Isles managed one. Sample size, meet garbage can.

What does matter? Goaltending. Ilya Sorokin (.923 SV%, 2.07 GAA) and Jake Allen (.920/1.89) are statistical twins between the pipes, which means the Devils have zero edge in the crease to justify laying -1.5 on the road. Favorites cover the puck line less than half the time league-wide, and when the netminding is a wash, you're basically betting on a two-goal margin in a coin-flip game.

The Islanders also get the rest advantage here—three days off versus two for New Jersey—so there's no fatigue angle to exploit. DarkHorse's model sees a tight, low-event game where one bounce decides it, and in that scenario, you want the cushion. We're riding Islanders +1.5 at moderate confidence, banking on Sorokin to keep this within a goal even if the Isles don't solve Allen. No revenge narrative, no situational leverage for the Devils—just a number that doesn't fit the matchup.
