Heat's Depth Chart Should Travel Better Than Orlando's Star Power in Preseason Tilt

The Magic host Miami on Friday night, and while preseason basketball is mostly about reps and rotations, the betting market is handing us a gift. Orlando gets the standard home nod at -1.5, but that line feels light when you stack up what each team brought to the table last season. The Heat averaged 120.9 points per game to Orlando's 115.7, ran a cleaner offense (114.5 efficiency vs. 112.2), and owned edges across the stat sheet—rebounding, assists, three-point shooting, the works. This isn't a star-power argument; it's a roster-depth reality check.

Preseason is won by second and third units, and Miami's construction looks sturdier top to bottom. Orlando's already managing bodies—Vucevic sat for rest last game, Black and Isaac are still working back—which means thinner lineups in a format where starters check out by halftime. The Heat don't need heroics; they just need their deeper rotation to do what it did all last year: execute, share the rock, and not fall apart when the names get less familiar.

DarkHorse likes Heat +1.5 at low confidence, and that feels about right. It's not a screaming edge, but in October basketball where depth decides outcomes, give me the team that can roll out competent basketball for 48 minutes without sweating the rotation chart.
