The Wizards head down to the Big Easy for a Friday night exhibition that'll feature more clipboard action than highlight reels. This is preseason basketball in its purest form: starters logging 20-ish minutes before the coaching staffs empty the bench and let the camp hopefuls chuck their way through extended garbage time. New Orleans posted a 112.1 offensive rating last year, Washington limped in at 108.7, but those numbers mean absolutely nothing here. Different rosters, different priorities, different game entirely.
The books hung 230.5 on this one, which feels like they forgot to check the calendar. That total screams regular-season pace and rotation tightness—neither of which you'll find in mid-October when both squads are evaluating two-way contracts and giving extended run to guys who'll be in the G-League by Halloween. Preseason games are evaluation labs, not scoring showcases. Expect choppy possessions, cold shooting from players fighting for roster spots, and plenty of whistles as refs work out their own timing.
DarkHorse likes the under 230.5 here, and it's hard to argue. When winning doesn't matter and development does, ugly basketball tends to follow. Fade the pace, ride the rust.
